1,560 Households Selected as Recipients
Total Incentives Amount to 23.8 Million Won
Jangsu County in North Jeolla Province has been awarding Carbon Neutrality Point incentives to residents who practiced carbon-neutral lifestyles during the first half of this year, starting from December 8 and continuing through the end of the year.
According to the county on December 16, the Carbon Neutrality Point Program is a nationwide greenhouse gas reduction initiative that provides incentives twice a year to households and businesses that reduce their electricity or water usage by more than 5% compared to the average of the previous one to two years.
This round of incentives will be awarded to a total of 1,560 households, amounting to 23.8 million won in total, distributed as Jangsu Love gift certificates, Green Card points, and other forms. The gift certificates have been distributed sequentially to recipients since December 8.
The county has continuously promoted the program and provided sign-up guidance every year to expand participation in the Carbon Neutrality Point Program. As voluntary participation by residents has increased, the county has also seen a steady rise in energy-saving achievements.
The county emphasizes that practicing energy conservation not only reduces the energy cost burden for individual households but also serves as an important foundation for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and responding to the climate crisis at the community level.
To further spread the culture of energy conservation and address the climate crisis, the county plans to continue implementing the Energy Carbon Neutrality Point Program next year and strengthen both online and offline promotional efforts to broaden the base of resident participation.
In particular, the county plans to operate the program in such a way that residents can directly experience the benefits, as reductions in electricity and water usage immediately translate into incentives. This approach aims to encourage practical actions in daily life that will lead to carbon neutrality at the community level.
County Governor Choi Hunsik said, "I would like to thank the residents who have participated in practicing carbon neutrality in their daily lives," adding, "We will continue to actively promote the transition to a low-carbon society through greenhouse gas reduction policies in partnership with our residents."
Meanwhile, registration for the Carbon Neutrality Point Program is open year-round. Residents can sign up online through the program's website or apply in person at the county office's Environmental Division or their nearest town or township office.
