According to the city on the 16th, this achievement is a result of Namwon City's policy efforts to ensure fair treatment and consideration for firefighters, which have been recognized nationwide.
The city has steadily established a healing infrastructure to support the psychological recovery of firefighters by utilizing local resources such as culture, arts, forestry, and festivals. In addition, Namwon City was selected as a win-win sisterhood partner with the National Fire Agency for local revitalization, and the scope and depth of cooperation between the two organizations have been further expanded.
In particular, building on the Jeonbuk Firefighters' Mind and Body Healing Program that has been operated since last year, the city and the National Fire Agency jointly launched the National Fire Safety Camp and the National Firefighter Family Healing Camp this year.
The Fire Safety Camp provided an opportunity for about 1,000 elementary school students from across the country, including children of uniformed officers, to learn about the importance of safety in daily life and to experience fire scenes firsthand.
In addition, 114 firefighters and their families, who had suffered significant psychological stress due to incidents such as the Itaewon tragedy, the December 29 passenger plane accident, and large-scale wildfire deployments, were able to fully recharge. These programs have received strong positive feedback as policies supporting the recovery and rest that firefighters deserve for their dedication.
The city operates support policies for the use of city-run lodging, camping, and cultural facilities for uniformed officers, including firefighters, and is also working to amend related ordinances for more stable support.
Symbolic achievements through artistic collaboration are also noteworthy. A keychain, created by combining the symbolism of life in "Hwahon Landscape" by Namwon-born artist Kim Byungjong and the noble dedication represented by "discarded firefighting uniforms," embodies the message that "the dedication of firefighters is never discarded but is reborn as life," and is regarded as a representative achievement of Namwon-style win-win cooperation.
Going forward, the city plans to collaborate with the Just Peace Foundation to develop sound healing content based on Namwon's sound culture and apply it to healing programs for firefighters.
An Soonyeop, Director of Planning and Coordination for Namwon City, stated, "This award is recognition of the sincere and sustained efforts Namwon City has made for firefighters and their families," adding, "We will continue to implement fair treatment and ongoing recovery support policies for firefighters, aiming to establish Namwon as a leading model city for firefighter family recovery in Korea."
