Busan Port Equips "Eyes for Transshipment"... BPA Distributes 'Monitoring System' to Shipping Lines and Terminal Operators

Busan Port Authority will provide a transshipment monitoring system, which enables real-time tracking of transshipment cargo flows, to shipping lines and terminal operators.

Busan Port Equips "Eyes for Transshipment"... BPA Distributes 'Monitoring System' to Shipping Lines and Terminal Operators Busan Port New Port.

On December 16, Busan Port Authority (BPA, President Song Sangkeun) began distributing the "AI and Blockchain-Based Transshipment Monitoring System (Port-i)" to shipping lines and terminal operators using Busan Port.

Busan Port is the world’s second-largest transshipment port, with approximately 55% (about 13.5 million TEUs) of its total cargo being transshipment cargo. Accurate and prompt handling of transshipment cargo is a key factor in maintaining competitiveness.

Port-i is a system that provides a comprehensive overview of transshipment cargo handling. Busan Port Authority has developed this system to enhance transshipment competitiveness amid the rapidly changing global logistics environment.

The main features of Port-i include: ▲ map-based AIS (Automatic Identification System) information ▲ vessel and cargo monitoring with anomaly detection ▲ integrated berth schedules for all 10 terminals at Busan Port. The system is distinguished by its use of AI and blockchain technologies.

Leveraging AI, the system predicts and detects potential delays in vessel schedules and operations, as well as risks in transshipment connections. Blockchain technology ensures the reliability and transparency of transshipment information, enabling precise monitoring throughout the entire transshipment process.

This system rollout targets all terminal operators and shipping lines at Busan Port. Busan Port Authority will first introduce the system to primary users engaged in actual transshipment operations to assess its practical utility and incorporate feedback for improvements.

Furthermore, in 2026, Busan Port Authority plans to upgrade Port-i to integrate it with the global logistics environment. Objectives include linking with overseas ports, applying global AIS, and expanding the scope of AI and blockchain utilization.

Port-i can be accessed through the Chain Portal, the integrated port logistics platform of Busan Port. After registering as a company member on the Chain Portal, users can log in to the system and utilize related services. Busan Port Authority will provide guidance and support to ensure users can effectively operate the system.

Song Sangkeun, President of Busan Port Authority, stated, "Key stakeholders of Busan Port, including shipping lines and terminal operators, will be able to carry out transshipment operations more efficiently through Port-i," adding, "We expect Busan Port’s transshipment competitiveness to be further enhanced."
