Top Honors Achieved Through AI and Robotics Convergence Technology
The Graduate School Department of Digital Imaging at Sangmyung University announced on the 17th that it had won the overall championship in the general division at the 6th AI Robot Convergence Sport Drone Competition, which was held at Kolon Sporex Dongpae Branch in Paju, Gyeonggi Province.

This competition was organized by the Korea Sports Aviation Association, with participants of various ages from across the country. Through sporting drone events that combined core technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution-AI, robotics, and drones-the competition comprehensively evaluated participants’ understanding of drone technology, creative problem-solving abilities, and operational skills.
Students from the Department of Digital Imaging at Sangmyung University achieved outstanding results in three general division categories: underwater drones, coding drones, and RC drones.
In the underwater drone category, student Lee Sungjun won first place in the men’s general division, and student In Sohyun won first place in the women’s general division. Additionally, students Oh Jihyun, Yang Moonsook, and Kim Gyutae formed a team and took second place in the team division of the coding drone category.
In the RC drone category, international student Dong Baku from China won first place in the men’s general division, while student In Sohyun also secured first place in the women’s general division.
Furthermore, student Lee Hojae received a merit award on behalf of the Department of Digital Imaging for participating in all general division events at this competition.
Professor Yang Jonghun of the Department of Digital Imaging stated, “Our students were able to excellently demonstrate their understanding of digital imaging and artificial intelligence, which they had built up through theoretical classes and research, in the actual competition setting.”
