The Era of 'AI Naval Maintenance' Begins... National Pukyong University and Naval Maintenance Depot Sign Marine and Shipbuilding Cooperation Agreement

This is the moment when academia meets the field, and the knowledge nurtured on campus flows into the very heart of naval vessels.

National Pukyong University (President Sanghoon Bae) and the Naval Maintenance Depot (Director Yeonsu Jeong) signed a business agreement on December 15 to cooperate in the fields of marine and shipbuilding.

On the afternoon of December 15, National Pukyong University and the Naval Maintenance Depot held a signing ceremony in the reception room on the third floor of the university’s main building. Both institutions agreed to establish a cooperative system for the development of national defense and regional industries by leveraging their respective areas of expertise.

Under this agreement, the two organizations plan to jointly focus on the development of smart maintenance technologies, the co-development of innovative technologies in the marine and shipbuilding sectors, and the training of skilled personnel. They also intend to maximize the effectiveness of their collaboration by linking it to the RISE (Regional Innovation-led University Support System) project currently being promoted by National Pukyong University.

In particular, by combining the research capabilities of National Pukyong University with the maintenance expertise of the Naval Maintenance Depot, substantial progress is expected in technical and research cooperation related to corrosion and corrosion protection for ship hulls, equipment, and components.

Additionally, the two institutions plan to expand their collaboration to include improving the quality of maintenance data, conducting research and educational support that incorporates artificial intelligence, and undertaking new materials and material property improvement research in connection with efforts to localize parts production.

Both organizations expect that this collaboration will serve as an exemplary case of successful cooperation between the military and academia, contributing to technological advancement in the region’s marine and shipbuilding industries.
