30,000 Athletes Bring 2.7 Billion Won Economic Impact Through Training Camps
Goal Set to Attract 35,000 Athletes in 2026
Gurye County in South Jeolla Province announced that since December, the region has been bustling as a winter training destination for major domestic sports teams. The enthusiasm of athletes preparing for the new season is invigorating the local economy.
The national reserve taekwondo team has been conducting physical strengthening and tactical training for 14 days from December 10 to December 23. The Gwangju University soccer team is also scheduled to hold a 12-day training camp from December 22 to January 2 of the following year.

An official participating in the training camp commented, "Gurye County, with its excellent sports facilities and pleasant natural environment, is the optimal training location. It is a place we trust and visit every year."
Starting in December and continuing from January 2026, various training camps and competitions in sports such as the elementary and middle school soccer Stove League, Ssireum (traditional Korean wrestling), and taekwondo are scheduled to be held in succession. Teams ranging from school squads to professional teams are expected to visit Gurye, further energizing the local area.
Approximately 30,000 athletes visited Gurye County for training camps this year, marking a significant increase compared to the previous year. As a result, the use of accommodations, restaurants, and various convenience facilities has risen, generating an estimated 2.7 billion won in economic impact for the local community.
Based on these achievements, Gurye County received the 'Effort Award' in the evaluation of training camp hosting performance, once again proving its status as a leading national destination for training camps.
Kim Soonho, Mayor of Gurye County, stated, "Ahead of the 2026 Jeonnam Sports Festival, we will expand and renovate sports facilities to enhance the training environment and attract more training teams, especially in soccer. We will strive to revitalize the local economy and enhance the brand value of Gurye County through sports."
