Inje County in Gangwon Province announced on December 16 that it will be accepting applications for participants in the "2026 Inje County Youth New Zealand Overseas Cultural Experience" program until December 31.
This overseas cultural experience is Inje County's flagship global education program, designed to help young people develop international awareness and directly experience diverse cultures and educational environments.
The program is scheduled to take place in New Zealand from July 17 to August 8, 2026, spanning 21 nights and 23 days. Participating students will be assigned to local schools to attend regular classes and experience local culture through homestays.
The program is open to middle school students residing in the county, with a total of 30 participants to be selected. Selection will be based on a combined score from a written test (40%) and an English interview (60%), with the top scorers chosen. The final list of successful applicants will be announced on the Inje County Office website on January 23, 2026.
The county will provide 5.5 million won in support per student, and for students from low-income families, the entire participation fee will be covered. However, some expenses, such as round-trip airfare and visa issuance fees, must be borne by the participants.
Applications will be accepted in person at the Department of Culture and Education, 2nd Annex Building of Inje County Office, until December 31. To be eligible, as of the announcement date, both the student and either parent must have been registered residents of Inje County and have actually lived there for at least one year.
An official from Inje County stated, "This New Zealand overseas cultural experience is an important program that offers young people the opportunity to learn and grow independently in a new environment. We expect it to be a meaningful time for students to broaden their international perspective and develop self-reliance, and we hope for active interest and participation from many students."
