Contributing to the Improvement of Milk Carton Recycling Rates
Hansol Paper announced on December 16 that it has received the GR (Good Recycled) certification from the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy for its pulp products produced by recycling milk cartons.
The recycled pulp that received certification this time is made by incorporating more than 50% post-consumer milk cartons by mass and recycling them into pulp, the main raw material for paper. According to the Korea Packaging Material Recycling Business Cooperative, the recycling rate for standard milk cartons was only 22.8% as of 2023. Hansol Paper's recycled pulp from milk cartons has been recognized for contributing to the improvement of milk carton recycling rates and for its potential to serve as a high-quality raw material for the production of various paper products.
Hansol Paper is the first in the paper industry to receive GR certification for recycled raw materials rather than conventional paper products. With this certification, Hansol Paper has been officially recognized for its environmentally friendly raw material production capabilities that contribute to a resource circulation system.
The GR certification, a government program introduced in 1997, is awarded to outstanding recycled products after a comprehensive evaluation of quality, safety, and environmental impact.
A Hansol Paper representative stated, "Obtaining the GR certification is a meaningful achievement that externally acknowledges Hansol Paper's eco-friendly technological capabilities and commitment to ESG management," adding, "As a core raw material for paper products closely related to daily life, we will continue to contribute to supply chain stability and the expansion of resource circulation."
