This visit was organized to strengthen the cooperative relationship with Laos, a country that sends foreign seasonal workers, and to directly share the stable operational achievements of Yangju City’s seasonal worker system on site.
The Minister of Labor of Laos visited Yangju City Hall, held a meeting with the mayor, and then toured local farms employing Laotian workers, farm-based accommodations, and a strawberry smart farm in succession.
On site, the delegation directly checked the working conditions of foreign seasonal workers, the status of accommodation operations, and cases of smart agriculture-based farm management. Explanations were also provided about Yangju City’s systematic management of workers and policies to address rural labor shortages.
Through the foreign seasonal worker system, Yangju City is alleviating labor shortages during the busy farming season and is implementing various policies to protect workers’ rights and support their stable settlement, including language support, accommodation improvements, and enhanced daily life management.
Kang Suhyeon, Mayor of Yangju City, stated, “The visit of the Minister of Labor of Laos was an opportunity to share the operational status of the foreign seasonal worker system and explore possibilities for cooperation. We will continue to strengthen collaboration with sending countries to create a system that satisfies both local farms and workers.”
