On December 15, Daejeon City held the 15th City-District Cooperation Meeting at the Jangtaesan Room in the Seo-gu District Office, presided over by Mayor Lee Jangwoo, with the participation of the five district heads. During the meeting, they discussed nine cooperative agenda items, including the development of efficient municipal solid waste management measures proposed by Daejeon City.

Mayor Lee Jangwoo stated, "While general waste such as pay-as-you-throw and food waste is collected daily except on weekends, recyclables are only collected twice a week. This results in recyclables piling up on the streets for extended periods, undermining the city's appearance and causing significant inconvenience for residents. To reduce the inconvenience in waste disposal and collection processes and to create a cleaner living environment, it is necessary to improve the waste management system in a way that citizens can truly feel the benefits."

He continued, "We plan to conduct a professional research study to diagnose the entire process of municipal solid waste collection, transportation, and treatment, in order to develop more efficient management measures. I ask for active cooperation from the autonomous districts to help formulate strategies for improving the urban environment."

Additionally, a proposal from Dong-gu District was discussed, which called for the establishment of a financial support system, such as preferential interest rates, for businesses affected by disasters.

Mayor Lee responded, "The city is currently operating a small business development fund to provide a stable business environment and enhance the competitiveness of local small and medium-sized enterprises. I agree on the need for substantial support to help disaster-affected businesses recover quickly, and we will actively consider applying preferential interest rates."

Regarding the proposal from Jung-gu District to attract public institutions to the idle site of Daejeon Tax Office and the J The Tower, Mayor Lee said, "If the central government designates institutions for relocation, we will proceed by considering candidate sites for the innovation city, as well as vacant buildings within the district. In particular, we will strategically and actively propose to the Ministry of Economy and Finance so that the Daejeon Tax Office site can be developed as a multi-functional hub to revitalize the city center."

Other agenda items discussed included: ▲ Jung-gu District's proposal to improve standards for installing smart bus stops; ▲ the District Heads' Council's proposal to include areas of population decline in metropolitan cities in the 'Second Home' tax support program and to ease qualification requirements for volunteer center directors; ▲ Yuseong-gu District's proposal to amend the ordinance on road occupancy permits to legalize autonomous crime prevention outposts; ▲ Daedeok-gu District's requests for city funding support for the construction of the Saeil Complex Cultural Center and for a food tech industry revitalization project.

In his closing remarks, Mayor Lee emphasized, "At the end of the year and the beginning of the new year, it is important to support small business owners and the self-employed, as well as to revitalize the local economy. There have been cases where budget execution has been delayed due to administrative procedures. Please make thorough preparations so that swift execution can begin in earnest from January next year."
