Gangbuk-gu to Open 'Uiryeong Park' on the 17th... First Phase Completed

1 Billion KRW in National Funding Invested
Phase 2 to Include Construction of a Public Library

Gangbuk-gu in Seoul (District Mayor Lee Soonhee) will open 'Uiryeong Park,' which was established in the Uiryeong Forest Culture Village at the foot of Bukhansan Mountain, on December 17.

Gangbuk-gu has completed the first phase of the cultural park construction on a 6,134-square-meter site in the area of 232 Uidong. This project was promoted with 1 billion KRW in national funding received through the Green Belt Resident Support Project, along with additional district funds.

Considering the local conditions, where residents faced significant restrictions in accessing daily infrastructure due to the designation as a green belt, the district improved pedestrian pathways connecting the Bukhansan Dulle-gil Trail and the village, and created spaces where residents can regularly walk through the forest trails and relax.

The first phase, which began construction at the end of last year and was completed this month, features an approximately 250-meter decked walking trail, eight picnic decks nestled among the trees, outdoor benches, and a multipurpose restroom. Landscape lighting was also installed for nighttime use.

A key feature of the park is that the pedestrian routes were designed to follow the natural flow of the forest while preserving the original terrain and trees as much as possible, allowing citizens to experience the changing seasons as they walk through the woods.

In the second phase, the district plans to build a public library, developing the area into a multi-purpose space that integrates relaxation, reading, and cultural functions connected to the park.

Lee Soonhee, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, stated, "Uiryeong Park is a space created to allow anyone to relax and stay comfortably while preserving the natural environment as much as possible," adding, "We will continue to develop the park in stages so that nature and culture can coexist in harmony."
