The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has launched the "US Tech Force," deploying a large-scale technical workforce to strengthen the federal government's artificial intelligence (AI) and digital capabilities. The initiative aims to build a national-level AI infrastructure in earnest through collaboration with global technology companies.

On December 15 (local time), the U.S. government announced plans to push forward major federal technology projects such as AI adoption, data modernization, and the advancement of digital services through the Tech Force, which will consist of approximately 1,000 engineers and technical experts.

The participating personnel will work as federal employees for two years, be assigned to key projects, and report directly to the heads of each federal agency under an organized system.

Major global IT companies-including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Apple, Google Public Sector, Microsoft, Nvidia, OpenAI, Oracle, Palantir, Salesforce, and Dell Technologies-will participate as private partners in this program. These companies plan to actively consider hiring Tech Force participants after the program ends, while also dispatching some of their own staff to government projects for a certain period as part of the collaboration.

The launch of the Tech Force is seen as a strategic move to solidify U.S. technological leadership amid intensifying competition with China in the AI sector, while rapidly enhancing federal AI capabilities. Notably, this measure was announced just four days after President Trump signed an executive order aimed at establishing a national AI policy framework. The executive order focuses on limiting the introduction of individual AI regulations at the state level and building a federal government-centered policy system.

The annual salary for Tech Force personnel is expected to range from $150,000 to $200,000.

Scott Cooper, Director of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM), said in an interview with CNBC, "We are restructuring the federal workforce to place the right talent in the right positions."
