Announced at the "Dongduk Women's University Development Plan Briefing"
Dongduk Women's University, which is working toward transitioning to a coeducational institution in 2029, announced on December 15 that it plans to change its name to "Dongduk University" or a similar variant.
On this day, Dongduk Women's University held a "Dongduk Women's University Development Plan Briefing" at the Centennial Hall auditorium, sharing its plans for the transition to coeducation with students, faculty, and alumni.
The university stated that it will consider various options, including "Dongduk University," as potential new names. It also announced plans to reaffirm its founding spirit, which emphasizes women's education, and to establish new majors in AI Engineering and Bioengineering.
Dongduk Women's University formed a Coeducation Transition Public Discussion Committee in June to discuss the issue. After the committee recommended the transition, President Kim Myungae officially announced on December 3 that the university would become coeducational starting in 2029. Currently, only the graduate school and the Korean Language and Culture major admit male students, but once the transition is complete, both undergraduate and graduate programs will admit new students regardless of gender.
