The Ministry of Climate Energy and Environment announced that it will hold a "Battery Circulation Utilization Policy Forum" at the National Battery Circulation Cluster in Pohang, Gyeongbuk, on December 16.

This forum has been organized to share the current status of major policy initiatives aimed at promoting the circulation and utilization of used batteries and to explore strategies for fostering the industry. More than 100 experts from electric vehicle and battery manufacturers, recycling and reuse companies, related associations and organizations, research institutes, and local governments are expected to attend.

In the first session, presentations will cover: ▲the current status of building a customized corporate support platform at the National Battery Circulation Cluster, ▲the direction of implementing the battery recycled material production certification system, and ▲the progress of establishing the Electric Vehicle Life Cycle Integrated Environmental Information Center. A tour of the Resource Circulation Research Center within the cluster will introduce battery performance and diagnostic equipment, as well as recycling demonstration facilities.

The second session will feature presentations and comprehensive discussions on: ▲the results of research evaluating the recycling value of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, ▲the current status of research and development in the field of used battery circulation and utilization, ▲plans to expand the functions of future waste resource collection centers to strengthen industry support, and ▲the progress of establishing a battery inline automatic performance evaluation center.

The Ministry of Climate Energy and Environment previously established the "Plan to Promote Battery Circulation Utilization" in May. At this forum, the ministry plans to share the progress of key tasks with stakeholders from industry, academia, and research, and to reflect the results of in-depth discussions in future policies and institutional improvements.

Kim Go-eung, Director of the Resource Circulation Bureau at the Ministry of Climate Energy and Environment, stated, "In the era of carbon neutrality, the stable circulation and utilization of used batteries, which are core resources of the circular economy, are directly linked to national competitiveness. Centered on the National Battery Circulation Cluster, we will strengthen cooperation among industry, academia, and research institutions and provide maximum support so that our companies can achieve international competitiveness and growth."
