Sharing the Achievements of Volunteer Activities Shining Across the Community
Recognizing a Year of Dedication with Government Awards and Commendations

Love is not something to be received, but to be shared. The 'Steel City' of Pohang is evolving into a 'City of Inspiration'.


On December 15, the Pohang Volunteer Center held the '2025 Pohang Volunteer Conference' at the Daejam Hall in the Culture Building of Pohang City Hall, celebrating the 20th Volunteer Day under the theme 'Pohang Blossoms Through Volunteerism, Delivering Inspiration'.

The Pohang Volunteer Center hosted the '2025 Pohang Volunteer Conference' on December 15 at the Daejam Hall in the Culture Building of Pohang City Hall.


The conference was organized to reflect on the activities of volunteers who have dedicated themselves to disaster response, care, the environment, safety, and talent sharing throughout the community, and to spread the culture of sharing in order to build a warmer local society.


The event was attended by Pohang Mayor Lee Kangduk, Pohang City Council Chairman Kim Ilman, Gyeongbuk Provincial Council Culture and Environment Committee Chairman Lee Dongup, as well as Gyeongbuk Provincial Council members Lee Dongup, Kim Heesu, Park Yongseon, Lee Chilgu, Pohang City Council member Jung Wonsuk, other distinguished guests, and more than 500 volunteers, who gathered to reflect on the meaning of volunteerism and to recognize the hard work carried out over the past year.


The program began with a video showcasing various volunteer activities, followed by government and local government commendations for 68 volunteers who contributed to making Pohang a happier place, and the presentation of volunteer certificates to outstanding volunteers.


Major awardees included: ▲ Lee Dongha (Neulpureunmaeumhoe) and Cho Hyunchan (Haksan Supporters), who received commendations from the Minister of the Interior and Safety; ▲ the Pohang Marine Corps Veterans Association and five other organizations, along with 30 individuals, who received commendations from the Mayor of Pohang. Commendations were also presented by the President of the Korea Volunteer Center Association, the Director of the Korea Central Volunteer Center, the Chairman and Director of the Gyeongbuk Comprehensive Volunteer Center, and the Chairman of the Pohang Volunteer Center.


Additionally, a total of 501 volunteers received volunteer certificates based on their annual service hours: 86 received the 'Volunteer King' award (over 1,000 hours), 46 received the Gold Badge (over 700 hours), 93 received the Silver Badge (over 500 hours), and 276 received the Bronze Badge (over 300 hours).


Kim Sangsoo, Chairman of the Pohang Volunteer Center, said, "I would like to express my respect and gratitude to all the volunteers who generously shared their warmth, time, and dedication throughout the year."


Mayor Lee Kangduk stated, "I am grateful for the hard work of the volunteers who have extended a helping hand with warmth and a sense of responsibility on the front lines," adding, "The city will continue to support strengthening the capabilities of volunteers and expanding participation across generations so that volunteerism can spread warmth throughout the community."
