The Gwangju Metropolitan Government and the Gwangju Policy Research Association are hosting the '2025 Gwangju Government-Industry-Academia-Research Innovation Policy Expo' for three days from December 15 to 17 at the Citizen Hall on the first floor of City Hall. This expo aims to share the annual achievements of participating public institutions and to incorporate them into the 2026 business plan, thereby strengthening the regional innovation ecosystem.

Since its launch in December 2023, the Gwangju Policy Research Association has continued policy exchanges by holding monthly policy forums and joint events, with the participation of 18 public institutions under the Gwangju Metropolitan Government, including the Gwangju Research Institute. This year, the scope of cooperation has been expanded to include local universities participating in the Gwangju RISE (Regional Innovation System for Education) project.

The expo features poster exhibitions of each institution’s achievements, a comprehensive achievement report session, innovation case discussions, and special lectures by invited speakers. At the Citizen Hall, outstanding policy achievements of public institutions are displayed in poster form, and during the comprehensive achievement report session, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed between local public institutions and universities participating in the Gwangju RISE project.

This was followed by a keynote lecture on “Cooperation Measures among Government, Industry, Academia, and Research for Regional Development” and presentations on “Outstanding Cases of Government-Industry-Academia-Research Cooperation.” The innovation case discussion session included presentations and debates on “Innovation Directions for Local Public Institutions” and “Balanced Policy for Five Major Sectors and Three Specializations and the Direction of RISE Restructuring.”

On the second day, Hwang Hyunpil, Director of the History Correction Research Institute, will deliver a special lecture titled “I Am a Person from Jeolla Province.”

Kang Gijeong, Mayor of Gwangju, stated, “Government, industry, academia, and research are the core foundations supporting Gwangju’s future,” adding, “This event is an opportunity to share achievements and jointly seek future growth tasks.” He also said, “With the full-scale implementation of the RISE project, the cooperation between the region and universities will be strengthened, which will also help prevent the outflow of young people.”

The Gwangju Policy Research Association will fully initiate cooperation between public institutions and local universities this year and will expand its collaboration to include national research institutes starting next year.
