Ordinance Amended and Approved; Registered Vehicles Using the Bridge During Weekday Commute Hours Eligible
Guaranteeing Gimpo Citizens' Right to Mobility, Reducing Financial Burden, and Improving Accessibility
Kim Byungsoo: "Early System Impleme
The plan to provide a 50% subsidy for Ilsan Bridge tolls, announced by Mayor Kim Byungsoo to guarantee Gimpo citizens' right to mobility and ease their financial burden, is expected to be implemented in the first half of next year. As the 'Ordinance on Subsidizing Ilsan Bridge Tolls' submitted by Gimpo City was amended and approved at the Gimpo City Council plenary session on December 15, the administrative procedures to put this into effect will now be actively pursued.
This ordinance was established to guarantee Gimpo citizens' right to mobility, alleviate their economic burden, and improve accessibility between regions. It is significant in that it provides a legal basis for subsidizing Ilsan Bridge tolls.
The subsidy will apply to vehicles registered in Gimpo City that use Ilsan Bridge during weekday commuting hours; weekends and public holidays are excluded.
The current toll for Ilsan Bridge is 1,200 won. Once the ordinance is implemented, vehicles belonging to Gimpo citizens will only need to pay 600 won, which is 50% of the toll. The subsidy will be provided for one round trip per vehicle per day.
After the ordinance is promulgated, the city will begin discussions with Ilsan Bridge Co., Ltd. to establish the necessary systems and aims to build the toll subsidy system as soon as possible. Gimpo City also plans to strengthen cooperation with Gyeonggi Province and the central government to further expand practical benefits for citizens.
Kim Byungsoo, Mayor of Gimpo, stated, "We prioritized citizens' transportation convenience in promoting this ordinance," adding, "We will pursue every possible measure to provide real relief from toll burdens. We will do our utmost to build the toll subsidy system quickly so that actual support can begin as early as the first half of next year."
