Event to Be Held at Jeju World Cup Stadium on December 20
Jeju Special Self-Governing Province announced that it will hold a D-day commemorative event for the 2026 Jeju National Sports Festival and National Para Games at Jeju World Cup Stadium at 2 p.m. on December 20, wishing for the successful hosting of the events.
This event has been organized to broaden the foundation for resident participation and to actively spread the atmosphere for a successful hosting, as there are 265 days left until the National Para Games and 300 days left until the National Sports Festival.
The event will consist of two parts: the first part will feature the unveiling ceremony of the countdown promotional tower, and the second part will be the commemorative ceremony. It is designed as a festival where residents can participate and enjoy together.
In the first part, the unveiling ceremony of the countdown promotional tower, featuring the event emblem and the mascot 'Kkiyo', will take place. The tower incorporates the image of Jeju's stone walls, reflecting the local characteristics, and its unveiling marks the official start of preparations for the festival.
During the second part, the appointment of promotional ambassadors will be held, and the launch of the Pan-Provincial Support Committee (591 members) and supporter group (targeting 4,470 members) will take place, reaffirming the residents' commitment to participating in the event.
The ceremony will also include a supporter cheer video featuring students, young immigrants, multicultural families, haenyeo (female divers), and other local community members, as well as congratulatory messages from domestic sports stars. At the end of the event, there will be a lighting performance wishing for the successful hosting of the festival.
At the venue, various on-site programs such as a photo zone with the mascot 'Kkiyo' and a message event wishing for the success of the festival will be available, allowing residents to participate and enjoy, further enhancing the festive atmosphere.
Jeju Province plans to use this event as an opportunity to continue fostering excitement for the successful hosting of the festival by strengthening tailored promotional activities, creating a buzz, and expanding resident participation through diverse content and on-site programs.
Kang Donggyun, Director of the Jeju National Sports Festival Planning Team, stated, "This event marks the starting point where the passion and participation of residents come together to move vigorously toward a successful festival," adding, "Based on resident participation, we will create a year-round festive atmosphere and realize a successful festival model that expands into tourism revitalization and regional economic recovery."
