On December 15, the Incheon city government announced that it will hold a public contest to select leading districts for the redevelopment of aging planned cities, targeting five large-scale residential districts developed in the 1980s and 1990s within the city.
The districts and project scales eligible for the contest are as follows: Yeonsu and Seonhak Districts with 6,300 units; Guwol District with 2,700 units; Gyesan District with 2,550 units; Galsan, Bupyeong, and Bugae Districts with 2,400 units; and Mansu 1, 2, and 3 Districts with 1,650 units. The selection will comprehensively consider factors such as the level of resident participation, urgency of redevelopment, and the ripple effect of project implementation.
The city will begin accepting applications from May 26 to June 1 next year, following the announcement made today, and will announce the final selection results in August. Districts selected as leading areas will have the advantage of establishing a special redevelopment plan first, allowing for faster project implementation.
Meanwhile, the city has prepared a draft of the Basic Plan for the Redevelopment of Aging Planned Cities and is currently collecting citizen feedback through a public review until December 22. After the public review, the draft plan will be finalized through procedures including a hearing from the city council, deliberation by the local committee, and review and approval by the Special Redevelopment Committee of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
An official from the Incheon city government stated, "We expect the redevelopment of aging planned cities to go beyond the limitations of individual reconstruction projects and serve as a foundation for transforming Incheon into a future-oriented city," adding, "We plan to proactively identify and swiftly push forward with districts where redevelopment will have a significant ripple effect."
