This inspection has been organized as part of an emergency safety measure to prevent fires in high-rise buildings, following the recent large-scale fire in a high-rise apartment in Hong Kong that resulted in significant casualties.

The inspection will target 33 complexes classified as fire-prone high-rise buildings (30 floors or higher, or over 120 meters tall), and will be carried out jointly with district and county building departments, as well as experts in the field of architecture.

The main inspection items include: ▲ illegal acts such as blocking or shutting down fire protection systems ▲ maintenance and operational functionality of major fire safety facilities ▲ closure or locking of evacuation and fire protection facilities ▲ maintenance of evacuation spaces, among others.

Previously, from December 1 to 12, the Ulsan Fire Headquarters conducted an emergency fire safety inspection of 9 complexes, including ultra-high-rise buildings (50 floors or higher, or over 200 meters tall) and high-rise buildings (30 floors or higher, or over 120 meters tall) equipped with combustible exterior materials, which are considered to be at higher risk.

Hong Jangpyo, Chief of the Ulsan Fire Headquarters, stated, "When a fire breaks out in a high-rise building, the presence of combustible exterior materials and the chimney effect can cause the fire to spread rapidly to the uppermost floors, potentially leading to a large-scale disaster. Routine maintenance of fire protection and evacuation facilities is more important than anything else, and through this fire safety inspection, we will do our utmost to make Ulsan a safe city where all citizens can enjoy their daily lives with peace of mind."

On December 10, the Ulsan Fire Headquarters conducted an on-site safety management review and administrative guidance for ultra-high-rise buildings at Taehwagang Exodium in Jung-gu, with Chief Hong Jangpyo and five other participants.
