Three Flavors of Plant-Based Melona: Melon, Mango, and Coconut
European Sales Quadrupled Year-on-Year Last Year
Binggrae announced on December 15 that its "Plant-Based Melona" has officially launched and begun sales at Carrefour, the leading French retail chain.
The products now available at Carrefour include three flavors of Plant-Based Melona: melon, mango, and coconut. Among these, the melon flavor received the "Best Innovation" (Meilleure Innovation) award in the regional and international categories at Carrefour's "Grand Prix de l'Innovation," being recognized for its unique taste not previously found in the European ice cream market. As a result of this award, the product has been rolled out to approximately 1,300 Carrefour stores across France.
Binggrae plans to use this official Carrefour launch as a springboard to accelerate its expansion into the European market, including France. Currently, Plant-Based Melona is also being sold at major Asian supermarket chains in France in addition to Carrefour.
This year, Binggrae has expanded its distribution network in Europe by launching products at Netto, a German discount supermarket, and Carrefour in Poland. Recently, the company also introduced Plant-Based Bungeoppang Samanco, further broadening its range of plant-based ice cream products.
Plant-Based Melona is an export-only product that replicates the taste and texture of the original Melona using only plant-based ingredients, with all dairy components removed. It was developed over several years through various combinations and experiments with plant-based ingredients, taking into account the high non-tariff barriers applied to imported dairy products in Europe.
Binggrae has been exporting Plant-Based Melona to the European market since 2023, and last year, its European sales increased by about four times compared to the previous year. A Binggrae representative stated, "With the official launch at Carrefour in France, we will focus on further expanding our distribution network within the European market."
