Donghae City in Gangwon Province announced on December 15 that it has established an online system for applying to dispose of bulky waste and to designate official sales outlets for volume-based waste bags, which had previously only been handled by phone or in-person visits. The new 'Online Application System for Bulky Waste Disposal and Designated Sales Outlets for Volume-Based Waste Bags' will be fully operational starting January 1, 2026.
Previously, reports for bulky waste disposal could only be made offline (by phone or in-person), leading to various issues such as missed applications, collection delays, and negative impacts on the city’s appearance. Additionally, applying for or changing designated sales outlets for volume-based waste bags required a direct visit to city hall, causing inconvenience for residents.
With the introduction of this system, citizens can now report bulky waste disposal and apply for designated sales outlets for volume-based waste bags easily via the internet or mobile devices, without restrictions of time or location. Administrative procedures will also be streamlined, allowing for faster response to civil requests.
Furthermore, to accommodate vulnerable groups such as the elderly, the offline methods (in-person visits and phone calls) will continue to be available alongside the online system.
In particular, the online management system for bulky waste disposal reports will enable rapid sharing and management of collection schedules, establishing a more systematic and efficient collection process.
Yoon Sungkyu, Head of the Environmental Division, stated, "The introduction of this system is a measure to minimize inconvenience for citizens and enhance administrative efficiency," adding, "We will continue to provide better administrative services by improving digital-based civil services in the future."
