Sokcho City, Gangwon Province, will operate a "Promotion Week for Parking Spaces Reserved for Disabled Persons" from December 15 to 19. On December 19 at 4:00 p.m., the city will hold an on-site promotional campaign for citizens at the Sokcho Nonghyup Hanaro Mart Expo Branch.
Parking spaces reserved for disabled persons are installed to ensure parking and mobility convenience for individuals with walking disabilities. These spaces can only be used when a vehicle displays the "Parking Permit for Disabled Persons" and a person with a walking disability is on board. Violations are subject to fines: 100,000 won for illegal parking, 500,000 won for obstructing parking, and 2 million won for improper use of the permit.
During the campaign, the city will focus on promoting the correct usage of these parking spaces, highlighting major violations such as failure to display the permit, absence of a disabled passenger, parking obstruction, and improper use of the permit.
Throughout the promotion week, the city will send official notices to multi-use facilities within its jurisdiction-such as apartment complexes, residential accommodations, and public parking lots-requesting cooperation in informing about violations. In addition, the city plans to conduct intensive public outreach using various media, including its official social media channels, website banners, and banners at public bulletin boards.
Meanwhile, in November, the city conducted joint inspections with public and private sectors in areas where violations of parking spaces reserved for disabled persons frequently occur, providing guidance and enforcement. This is part of an ongoing, year-round management system.
A Sokcho City official stated, "We hope this promotional campaign will raise public awareness and help spread the understanding that parking spaces reserved for disabled persons are not a matter of consideration but an obligation." The official added, "We will continue our efforts through ongoing promotion and inspections to establish a mature parking culture."
