Collaboration on Burnout Prevention Programs for Social Service Workers
Exploring New Synergies Between Welfare and Tourism
Gangwon Tourism Foundation (CEO Choi Sunghyun) and Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Social Service Agency (Director Lee Eunyoung) have joined forces to revitalize tourism in abandoned mine and border areas and to support social service workers. On December 12, the two organizations signed a business agreement at Gangwon Welfare Maru, pledging active cooperation in discovering tourism resources in regions at risk of population extinction and in developing healing programs for social service workers.

This agreement is a key initiative to fulfill the eighth popularly elected administration's pledge to improve the treatment of social welfare workers.
The two organizations will jointly discover and develop tourism programs in abandoned mine and border areas, and will operate burnout prevention and healing programs for social service workers who are subject to heavy workloads. In addition, they plan to connect their resources and networks to share information and to collaborate on promoting and expanding these programs.
Through this cooperation, both organizations expect to generate new tourism demand in abandoned mine and border areas facing population extinction, and to boost the morale of social service workers through the "Gangwon-style healing tourism" model.
In doing so, they aim to expand access to tourism, fulfill the social responsibility of public institutions for regional coexistence, and further enhance the value of the "2025-2026 Visit Gangwon Years."
Choi Sunghyun, CEO of Gangwon Tourism Foundation, stated, "This agreement marks a meaningful starting point for realizing innovation in public services by combining expertise in tourism and social welfare. Through close cooperation with the Social Service Agency, we will revitalize the region and provide dedicated workers in the field with opportunities for warm rest."
