Jung Kyungeun of Daegu Suseong District Council Honored with 'National Local Council Best Eco-Friendly Council Member Award'

Jung Kyungeun, a member of the Daegu Suseong District Council, received the Best Eco-Friendly Council Member Award in the basic councilor category at the "2025 National Local Council Best Eco-Friendly Council Member Awards" hosted by the Korea Environmental Information Research Center on December 12.

Since 2009, the Korea Environmental Information Research Center has annually selected local council members who have shown outstanding achievements in promoting eco-friendly policies through evaluations of regional legislative activities. This year, a total of 34 council members (8 from metropolitan councils and 26 from basic councils) were selected from among over 3,500 local council members across approximately 250 local councils nationwide.

This year’s evaluation comprehensively reflected a variety of indicators, including the diligence, depth, sustainability, feasibility, and contribution of overall legislative activities. The evaluation was also expanded to include not only traditional environmental concepts (such as water, air, waste, and climate change) but also international environmental concepts such as energy, safety, health, and landscaping.

This award recognizes Assemblywoman Jung’s extensive efforts in leading eco-friendly legislative activities to address the climate crisis.

Assemblywoman Jung has consistently raised local environmental issues through five-minute speeches on topics such as "Making Suseong-gu a Leading City in the Circular Economy" and "Forming a Resource Circulation and Community Culture." She has also contributed to establishing the foundation for carbon reduction in daily life and building a resource circulation system by sponsoring environmental ordinances, including the "Suseong-gu Ordinance on Promoting the Reduction of Single-Use Products," the "Suseong-gu Ordinance on Facilitating the Transition to a Circular Economy Society," and the "Suseong-gu Ordinance on the Installation and Support of Food Waste Reduction Devices."

In addition, Assemblywoman Jung was comprehensively recognized for her field-oriented approach, which includes actively participating in relevant training to enhance her expertise, gathering residents’ opinions through various forums and meetings, and reflecting local issues in her legislative work. As a result, she was selected as one of the "2025 National Local Council Best Eco-Friendly Council Members."

Assemblywoman Jung stated, "I believe that politics must take the lead in protecting and preserving the environment for future generations," adding, "With this award as motivation, I will approach my legislative work with an even greater sense of responsibility to help build a sustainable society where we live in harmony with nature."
