Adding Meaning as an Operator of a Basketball Team for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities
15 Million Won in Total Support Over Three Years (2023-2025)
Official Donation Ceremony Held After the Game

On December 10, more than 60 students and staff members from Gumi Hedang School in North Gyeongsang Province attended a home game at Daegu Indoor Gymnasium, invited by the Korea Gas Corporation Pegasus Basketball Team.

Gumi Hedang School is the only institution in the Daegu and North Gyeongsang region that operates both student and adult basketball teams for individuals with intellectual disabilities. This visit provided students with a meaningful opportunity to experience professional basketball firsthand, enhancing their interest and motivation in sports.

The students enjoyed an up-close view of the professional players’ game, cheering events, and various performances. Some students also participated in commemorative photo and autograph sessions with the players and cheerleaders, creating special memories.

In particular, after the game, a sponsorship donation ceremony was held by the Korea Gas Corporation Pegasus Basketball Team.

Since 2023, the Korea Gas Corporation Pegasus Basketball Team has provided 5 million won annually for three years, totaling 15 million won, to support the Gumi Hedang School basketball team for students with intellectual disabilities. The sponsorship funds have been used to improve the team’s training environment, purchase equipment, and organize various sports activities, including the Gumi Cup National Inclusive Basketball Festival.

Jung Hyekyung, Principal of Gumi Hedang School, said, “Our students are participating more actively in sports activities thanks to the continued interest and support from the local professional team. We are especially grateful for the sponsorship that has greatly empowered the basketball team for students with intellectual disabilities, and we will further strengthen our support for sports activities to help our students grow even more.”

Gumi Hedang School plans to further expand collaboration programs with the local community to promote the holistic development of students and enhance the athletic abilities of people with disabilities.
