Ten Varieties Launched, Discounts Available Through December 17
3,000 Won Off Per Pack When Buying Two
Bulk Procurement Enables Competitive Pricing
Emart announced on December 14 that it has become the first major discount store to introduce ten types of Australian organic beef, and will hold a launch promotion with discounts through December 17.
Among the Australian organic beef selection, the chuck flap tail (200g) and tenderloin (200g) are normally priced at 19,800 won, but will be available for 16,800 won when purchasing two packs, reflecting a 3,000 won discount. Other cuts, including brisket (300g), chuck flap (200g), shank (300g), and chuck eye roll (300g), are also discounted from the regular price of 15,800 won to 12,800 won when buying two packs.
The current organic beef market relies on small quantities transported by air, with sales primarily taking place online. As a result, it has been difficult to find organic beef in offline stores, and it has been virtually impossible to purchase at large discount retailers. In addition, there are only a few domestic organic-certified processing facilities, which has limited the infrastructure for handling organic beef.
To overcome these limitations, Emart has secured a large volume of products for sale at all stores by collaborating with importer Hanzhong Food and Australian producer Teys Australia.
The quantity prepared for this promotion amounts to 30 tons, which is equivalent to Emart's typical four-week supply of Australian beef. This bulk procurement has enabled the company to reduce logistics costs and offer competitive pricing.
The product quality is also outstanding. The organic beef comes from cattle that are freely pasture-raised on Australia's vast grasslands. The cattle are fed only non-GMO grass, with no antibiotics or hormone injections used.
Furthermore, the beef has received organic certification in both the United States and Australia, as well as certification from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs in Korea. The company explained that during transportation, the beef is processed and shipped at optimal temperatures to maintain its premium quality, resulting in tender texture and mild flavor.
Lee Jisoo, Emart’s livestock buyer, stated, "Through large-scale planning and collaboration with key partners, we are able to introduce organic beef with outstanding quality and price competitiveness at a major discount store for the first time. We expect a positive response from customers, as this allows them to purchase organic products at affordable prices that might otherwise be out of reach."
