Trump: "Thailand and Cambodia Agree to Halt Hostilities, Return to Peace Agreement"

On December 12 (local time), President Donald Trump of the United States announced that Thailand and Cambodia had agreed to cease hostilities and return to the ceasefire agreement.

President Trump stated on the social media platform Truth Social that "This morning, I spoke with Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul of Thailand and Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia," adding, "Both sides have agreed to halt all hostilities starting this evening and return to the original peace agreement."

Thailand and Cambodia had entered into a ceasefire agreement following an armed conflict in July, but recently resumed clashes in the border area.

President Trump explained, "The roadside bomb incident that initially resulted in numerous Thai military casualties was an accident; nevertheless, Thailand responded with significant force," and added, "Now both countries are ready to maintain peace and continue trade with the United States."

He went on to say, "It is an honor for me to have contributed to resolving a situation that could have escalated into a large-scale war between these two great and prosperous nations."

He also expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of Malaysia for his assistance in this very important matter. Prime Minister Anwar has also made mediation efforts to resolve the conflict between the two countries.
