International Cooperation in the Earthquake Safety Industry Expands
Technology Sharing and Enhanced Earthquake Response Capabilities
Establishing a Specialized Certification System for Earthquake Safety
Preparing to Enter the Global Market
Yangsan City in South Gyeongsang Province has begun developing strategies to foster the earthquake safety industry through an international joint workshop.
On December 12, Yangsan City held an international joint workshop and a seminar on the certification system for earthquake safety products and technologies to promote the earthquake safety industry and establish a foundation for international cooperation.
The preceding international joint workshop was organized to share the results of a large-scale international joint shaking table experiment conducted since June this year by the Pusan National University Earthquake Disaster Prevention Research Center, the Taiwan Earthquake Engineering Research Center, and the National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience of Japan. The event was attended by over 50 participants, including international experts in earthquake-related fields, businesspeople from earthquake safety industries, and researchers.
The international joint experiment simulated real architectural environments, making it a meaningful study that comprehensively evaluated the functionality of non-structural elements during seismic events. This went beyond simple technical discussions and led to the formation of an international consensus on strategies for actual policy implementation.
Following this, the Korea Conformity Laboratories (KCL) hosted a seminar on the certification system for earthquake safety products and technologies. As part of the project to establish facilities for the promotion of the earthquake safety industry, KCL is developing a certification system specialized for earthquake safety. The seminar shared the background for introducing the certification system, evaluation criteria for each product group, and strategies for companies to utilize the system.
As technical regulations requiring seismic performance of non-structural elements in buildings are being strengthened internationally, a certification system is necessary to boost exports. Therefore, the seminar provided practical information and insights to relevant companies.
A city official stated, "Today's event was not only an opportunity to establish a foundation for international cooperation to promote the earthquake safety industry, but also a meaningful time for local companies aiming to enter overseas markets. Based on this, Yangsan City will make multifaceted efforts to establish a foundation for the growth of local companies linked to the earthquake safety industry."
