First in Korea to Obtain Certification for Liquefied Hydrogen Usage Facilities
Officially Demonstrates Global Top-Tier Competitiveness
Establishes Leadership in Hydrogen Infrastructure with KGS Certification
Secures In-House Usage Facilities for Enhanced Delivery, Quality, and Cost Competitiveness
Recognized for Achieving Competitiveness on Par with Leading Global Companies
Bumhan Mecatec has become the first domestic storage tank manufacturer to obtain certification for "liquefied hydrogen usage facilities," a milestone that is seen as elevating the technological standards of Korea's hydrogen industry.
Bumhan Mecatec announced on the 12th that it had successfully carried out the "liquefied hydrogen storage tank development and demonstration project," which was promoted based on the regulatory sandbox of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. As a result, it became the first storage tank manufacturer to receive Korea Gas Safety Corporation (KGS) certification for both its storage tank (product) and usage facility under actual cryogenic conditions of -253°C.
This certification is being recognized as a leap forward in bringing Korea’s hydrogen infrastructure technology to a world-class level.
The technology for liquefied hydrogen storage tanks requires highly advanced and integrated expertise, including insulation performance, vacuum maintenance, and safety design, all under the extreme environment of -253°C.
Bumhan Mecatec has succeeded in localizing all processes, including design, manufacturing, and performance testing. During the KGS verification process, the company demonstrated its technological prowess by achieving global top-tier results in all key indicators, such as insulation performance, vacuum maintenance, and durability.
This achievement puts Bumhan Mecatec on par with leading global companies specializing in cryogenic storage tanks.
Furthermore, it is expected to be recorded as a case that not only achieves localization but also effectively closes the technological gap with global leaders in the field.
The independently developed liquefied hydrogen usage facility certified this time is considered an innovative example of process establishment, as it is the first facility of its kind to be built and approved by a domestic storage tank company.
With this certification, Bumhan Mecatec can now conduct all insulation performance tests, charging and operation demonstrations, and cryogenic stability verifications for all future storage tanks in-house.
This is expected to significantly shorten the lead time for insulation performance testing, reduce dependence on external infrastructure, and greatly enhance business competitiveness by improving customer delivery times, reducing manufacturing costs, and accelerating quality feedback.
Bumhan Mecatec has already been officially recognized for the commercial viability and market trustworthiness of its technology, having been selected as the supplier of storage tanks for the large-scale liquefied hydrogen charging station project led by SK.
As the liquefied hydrogen charging station market enters a phase of full-scale expansion, Bumhan Mecatec is expected to further solidify its market position by internalizing technology through localization development and demonstration.
Based on its core technology, Bumhan Mecatec plans to expand its business areas to include: ▲Marine (liquefied hydrogen fuel supply vessels, ship storage modules), ▲Mobility (hydrogen buses, trucks, UAVs), and ▲Industrial plants (power generation, energy hubs).
In particular, the marine and mobility sectors are areas where global leading companies are also strategically active, and Bumhan Mecatec's ability to compete on equal footing is considered a key strength.

With over 60 years of history and expertise accumulated through global projects, Bumhan Mecatec is Korea’s leading energy solution company, providing core technologies across the entire clean energy value chain-from cryogenic storage solutions to hydrogen and energy infrastructure, and modular plant solutions.
The company is growing as a Global Green Energy Solution Partner by designing and manufacturing essential equipment for the future energy market, such as CCUS equipment, liquefied hydrogen storage tanks, and hydrogen charging and supply infrastructure, thereby supporting customers in their energy transition.
Kim Seongsu, CEO of Bumhan Mecatec, stated, "This certification is more than just a technological development; it is proof that Korea’s liquefied hydrogen industry can compete on the global stage. Our storage tank technology has been validated at a level on par with global top-tier companies, marking an important milestone that raises the profile of Korean technology."
He added, "Starting with liquefied hydrogen charging stations, we will expand our business into marine, mobility, and industrial plant sectors, aiming to become a key player in the global clean hydrogen market."
