Search and Seizure Conducted for 10 Hours That Day

The police have conducted search and seizure operations at Coupang for four consecutive days following a massive personal information leak incident.

The Cyber Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced that it halted the search and seizure of Coupang's headquarters office in Songpa-gu at around 7 p.m. on December 12, 2025. The operation, which mobilized a dedicated team of 11 officers, began at approximately 9:30 a.m. and lasted about 10 hours.

Since initiating the search and seizure on December 9, the police have been conducting daily 10-hour operations at the headquarters. Given the vast amount of Coupang's digital data, the investigation is likely to continue on December 13 as well.

Based on the secured materials, the police are tracking the whereabouts of a former employee of Chinese nationality suspected of leaking the personal information. At the same time, they plan to examine the technical vulnerabilities in Coupang's internal management system.

Previously, the police launched the investigation after receiving a complaint on November 25, 2025. The leaked personal information is reported to involve approximately 33.7 million individuals and includes basic details such as names, phone numbers, and addresses.
