Results Reflect Achievements from "KHNP Support Project" and "Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries Public Project" Research
Gijang County (Governor Jeong Jongbok) announced on December 12 that it had distributed 600 trays of seaweed and wakame seedlings (covering a cultivation area of 15 hectares) produced in-house to local fishing sites on December 11.

This seedling distribution is a result of the "Gijang-Style Seaweed Seed Production Research" being conducted by the Fisheries Resources Research Center, and follows the previous distribution of 950 trays of seaweed seedlings in November, marking the second round of support.
In July, the research center received 30 million won from the Gori Nuclear Power Plant project budget and conducted research on indoor growth promotion technology. As a result, they succeeded in improving seedling quality and producing high-density seaweed seedlings favored by fishermen.
For wakame, the research center studied the field application of cultivation technology through a Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries public project, identified its growth range, and introduced stable management methods. This achievement brings Gijang waters one step closer to establishing a "fully integrated wakame aquaculture system."
The research center plans to distribute an additional 400 trays of kelp seedlings next week. It will also continuously monitor the growth status and field challenges of the seedlings supplied to each area until harvest, with the findings to be reflected in future research on high-quality seedling development.
Governor Jeong Jongbok stated, "Fishermen are facing many difficulties due to abnormal marine environments, so we will closely monitor changes in the field and respond promptly. We will continue to supply high-quality seedlings to help local fishermen secure stable incomes."
