The Yeongam County Agricultural Technology Center in South Jeolla Province has elevated the status of local rural development institutions by achieving outstanding results in an evaluation organized by the Rural Development Administration.
The center received the Excellence Award at the "2025 Outstanding Local Rural Development Institution Evaluation" conducted by the Rural Development Administration on December 11.
This marks a consecutive achievement, following the Excellence Award at the Rural Resource Project Best Practice Competition held on November 25.
This evaluation comprehensively assessed agricultural technology centers nationwide across nine indicators, including efforts to expand the foundation for technology dissemination, achievements in spreading new technologies, revitalization of rural resources, response to agricultural disasters, implementation of convergence and collaboration projects, and the degree of cooperation between central and local work support, among others.
Yeongam County was honored with the award for its balanced achievements in all evaluation areas, such as establishing an on-site technology support team for figs, operating a carbon-neutral agriculture school, developing Yeongam rice varieties, and collaborating on fig research projects and pest and disease prevention.
In particular, Yeongam County has been implementing a two-year project targeting figs, a specialized crop with the largest cultivation area in the country, and is working to expand the cultivation area of green figs and establish a data-driven smart agriculture standard model through a pilot project for a technology dissemination blending cooperation model.
Additionally, through central-local cooperation, the county is advancing fig research and development, pest and disease prevention, and Yeongam rice variety development projects, thereby strengthening the competitiveness of local agriculture.
Lee Jeong, Director of the Yeongam County Agricultural Technology Center, stated, "This achievement is the result of all our staff working together with one mind for the sustainable development of Yeongam agriculture," adding, "We will continue to strengthen science and technology-based agricultural guidance to resolve on-site challenges and improve farm income."
