Guangzhou City Bus Procurement Project Bid
Ranked First in Comprehensive Evaluation... 249 Buses to Be Supplied Within This Year
Hyundai Motor Group's Chinese hydrogen fuel cell system subsidiary, HTWO Guangzhou, has achieved a major milestone by winning a large-scale bid in China, the world's largest hydrogen vehicle market.
On December 12, Hyundai Motor Group announced that HTWO Guangzhou's 8.5-meter hydrogen electric bus (hydrogen bus), jointly developed with Chinese commercial vehicle manufacturer Kaiwo Group, was selected as the final winner in the "Hydrogen Fuel Cell City Bus Procurement Project" bid announced on December 9 by Guangzhou State-owned Bus Group, a local state-owned bus operator.
Through this project, Guangzhou State-owned Bus Group plans to introduce a total of 450 hydrogen buses, with HTWO Guangzhou and Kaiwo Group securing orders for 224 units, nearly half of the total. This represents the largest order to date for a hydrogen bus procurement project in China.
Previously, in November, the two companies also ranked first in the comprehensive evaluation in a separate bid conducted by Guangzhou State-owned Bus Group, winning orders for 25 out of 50 hydrogen buses. With this additional order, the two companies plan to supply a total of 249 hydrogen buses to Guangzhou State-owned Bus Group within this year.
A company representative explained that the evaluation in this bid reflects the recognition of the quality and durability of the jointly developed 8.5-meter hydrogen bus by HTWO Guangzhou and Kaiwo Group.
The 8.5-meter hydrogen bus is equipped with HTWO Guangzhou's 90kW hydrogen fuel cell system, achieving a power generation efficiency of 64%. Not only does it surpass traditional internal combustion engines, but it also enables long-distance travel of up to 576 kilometers (based on local certification standards) with just five minutes of hydrogen refueling.
HTWO Guangzhou, which is responsible for the production and technological localization of fuel cell systems in China for Hyundai Motor Group, aims to further solidify its leading position in the hydrogen energy market through the introduction of these hydrogen buses.
Including this supply of hydrogen buses, HTWO Guangzhou will have delivered more than 1,000 vehicles equipped with hydrogen fuel cell systems by the end of the year. As the city of Guangzhou has recently included hydrogen energy as a key element in its efforts to reduce carbon emissions and improve energy efficiency in the transportation sector, the company is expected to contribute to the transition to eco-friendly transportation infrastructure in the region.
A representative from HTWO Guangzhou stated, "We will continue to work with local partners to demonstrate hydrogen fuel cell technology and build an ecosystem, so that hydrogen can become a major clean transportation option in Guangzhou."
