The Gumi City Council in North Gyeongsang Province convened the 2nd plenary session of its 292nd 2nd Regular Session on December 11, during which it finalized the 2026 budget and addressed other key agenda items.
Prior to the meeting, Assemblyman Kim Geunhan delivered a five-minute free speech, emphasizing the need to establish a strategic foundation for securing the future competitiveness of Gumi City's drone industry, including the construction of demonstration infrastructure and the expansion of airspace.
Additionally, Assemblyman Kim Jaewoo raised issues related to the Nakdong River Urban Ecological Axis Restoration Project during a policy inquiry directed at the mayor of Gumi, urging thorough inspection and improvement of each project to ensure proper implementation.
In the subsequent session, a total of 24 agenda items were handled, including ordinance bills proposed by assembly members, ordinance bills and consent bills submitted by the executive branch, and the 2026 budget and fund management plans. These items had been reviewed by each standing committee and the Special Budget and Accounts Committee over a 15-day period from November 26 to December 10.
Notably, the executive branch submitted the 2026 budget at a record-high amount of 2.232 trillion won. After preliminary review by the standing committees and an in-depth examination by the Special Budget and Accounts Committee, the council decided to cut 4.23943 billion won from 20 items in the general account, emphasizing the need to avoid budget restructuring without sufficient prior explanation and consultation, and requiring advance discussions with the council.
For the remaining schedule, the standing committees and the Special Budget and Accounts Committee will review the second supplementary budget for 2025 and changes to the fund management plan from December 12 to 16. The 3rd plenary session will be held on December 17 to make final decisions and conclude all council business for the year.
Chairman Park Gyosang stated, "Despite difficult circumstances, the budget has been prepared, and next year we must work even harder to revive the local economy and enhance citizens' happiness. The council will take responsibility to ensure that even the smallest project and every won of the budget contributes to the well-being of our citizens." He added, "I ask all citizens for your continued interest and support."
