A man in his twenties who died in the truck rampage accident at Jeil Market in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, gave the gift of new life to three people before passing away.
According to the Korea Organ Donation Agency on December 11, Youngin Moon, 23, visited Bucheon Jeil Market with his mother on November 13. While his mother went into a store to pay, a truck plowed into the market. He was transported to the hospital for treatment but did not regain consciousness and was declared brain dead.
Moon, the youngest of one son and one daughter, was born with an intellectual disability. At the time of the accident, he and his mother were at the market to prepare for his father's birthday the next day.
The family was devastated when doctors told them that Moon's condition was deteriorating and that he would not survive more than three days. However, they decided to donate his organs, hoping that he could help others and continue to live on, even if only through someone else's body.
Moon enjoyed making coffee and bread with his friends, and was so pure-hearted that after touching his newborn nephew's hand, he said he would not wash his hand so he could keep the scent for as long as possible. Thanks to his family's devoted care and rehabilitation therapy, he was able to attend school and participate in daily activities, always greeting everyone with a bright smile and kindness.
His mother, Choi Seoyoung, gave her final farewell, saying, "Youngin was an angel, and I am sorry I couldn't spend more time with him. I hope he can spread his wings and be happy in heaven. I will live my life to the fullest, thinking that somewhere, your heart is still beating."
