In China, a commotion broke out as residents, having heard rumors about the discovery of silver coins, began excavating land without permission.


On December 11, the Hongxing News reported, "News spread on social media that silver coins had been found near Chadun Town in Songjiang District, prompting 30 to 40 residents to suddenly gather and start digging, which eventually led the police to intervene."

Videos uploaded to social media showed people digging the ground with shovels and other tools. Residents used metal detectors to search the soil and continued working into the evening with flashlights.


One resident claimed that thousands of silver coins had been unearthed at the site, stating that the area used to be home to old houses. Another resident reported, "There are already people who have found silver coins, and I saw some being sold for 600 yuan (about 125,000 won) each."

As the commotion escalated, the police intervened. Upon arriving at the scene, officers dispersed the crowd.


A local administrative official stated, "Relevant departments are currently investigating and verifying whether silver coins were indeed discovered," and added, "The cultural heritage management department and the police are monitoring the situation on site." The official continued, "Silver coins fall under the category of cultural heritage. If any are found, we will report the situation to relevant institutions such as the Shanghai Museum and make an official announcement based on the results."
