Mutilated Cat Carcass Found in Busan... Police Launch Investigation A cat carcass presumed to have died from abuse was found in Busan. Animal Love Stray Cat Protection Coalition

On December 11, the Gangseo Police Station in Busan announced that they have begun an investigation after discovering the mutilated and apparently burned carcass of a cat in an alley in Gangseo District.

The animal protection group "Animal Love Stray Cat Protection Coalition" found the cat carcass in Gangseo District at around 6 p.m. on December 9. At the time, the carcass was reported to be severely damaged, with most of its fur burned off.

The organization stated on its official social media account, "According to the informant, the cat's fur had been completely burned off and the body was dismembered. Upon inspection at the scene, it was clear that the cat had been abused by a person." Under current law, those who commit animal abuse can face up to three years in prison or a fine of up to 30 million won.

The organization added, "A necropsy has been requested, and we strongly urge that the perpetrator receive the maximum prison sentence under the law, rather than a mere slap-on-the-wrist fine."

The police plan to launch a full-scale investigation.
