Gyeonggi Province will hold a "Climate Satellite Success Celebration Ceremony" on December 13 at the Creative Staircase (B1) of Gyeonggi Provincial Library in Gwanggyo, Suwon. During the event, the results of the climate satellite’s transmission and reception, as well as its current location, will be released following the satellite launch.
Previously, on November 29, Gyeonggi Province launched the "Gyeonggi Climate Satellite" from the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, United States, using a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. The satellite reached its target orbit and was deployed approximately 56 minutes later, at around 4:40 a.m. About an hour after launch, successful communication with the ground was established.
The Climate Satellite Success Celebration Ceremony will proceed in the following order: ▲ Announcement of the satellite’s transmission and reception results and current location ▲ A lecture by astronomer Lee Myunghyun ▲ Presentation and awards for the winning entries of the Gyeonggi Climate Vibe Coding Hackathon.
On the same day, Gyeonggi Province will also host the "Climate Vibe Coding Hackathon" in the auditorium on the third floor of the Gyeonggi Credit Guarantee Foundation. This event aims to discover creative services such as apps and websites that address climate crisis issues by utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) and climate data from the Gyeonggi Climate Platform. Additionally, at the "Space Experience Zone" in the Planet Gyeonggi Hall of the Gyeonggi Provincial Library, participants can join the "10 Missions to Protect the Earth" program, which includes experiences such as trying on spacesuits and sampling future foods.
Through this event, Gyeonggi Province aims to commemorate the first successful transmission and reception of the Gyeonggi Climate Satellite and to share the importance of responding to the climate crisis through satellite technology with its residents.
Cha Sungsoo, Director of the Climate, Environment, and Energy Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "The first reception of data from the Gyeonggi Climate Satellite signifies that Gyeonggi Province has secured technological capabilities in the space industry and has taken a further step toward addressing the climate crisis. We will continue to implement scientific and proactive climate policies based on satellite data."
