Ministry of National Defense Removes Drone Commander and Prosecution Chief Indicted by Special Prosecutor Yonhap News Agency

On December 10, the Ministry of National Defense announced, "In connection with the special prosecutor's investigation into the death of Marine Chae, Brigadier General Kim Donghyuk, head of the Ministry of National Defense's prosecution team, was removed from his post as of yesterday, and in connection with the special prosecutor's investigation into the insurrection, Major General Kim Yongdae, commander of the Drone Operations Command, was removed from his post today."

Former Commander Kim is accused of directing the so-called Pyongyang drone operation in October last year without following the proper chain of command. The special prosecutor believes that this operation was carried out to create a justification for declaring the 12·3 Martial Law. Former Commander Kim has been indicted on charges of abuse of authority, falsification of official documents, and issuing false orders and reports.

Former Prosecutor Kim was indicted without detention on charges including involvement in the retrieval of initial investigation records during the Chae Sang-byeong case.
