Fines Imposed on Illegal Distributors
Medytox announced on December 9 that a local broker involved in distributing counterfeit versions of 'Meditoxin' (export name: Neuronox) and the hyaluronic acid filler 'Neuramis' has been sentenced to prison and fined.
Medytox entered the Thai market in the mid-2010s. As 'Neuronox' and 'Neuramis' gained significant popularity and rapidly increased their market share, counterfeit products reportedly began to appear locally. In response, the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) of Thailand launched a crackdown on counterfeit botulinum toxin products and fillers in 2019. Medytox, together with its local joint venture Mediselles, filed lawsuits against illegal distributors and brokers.
On November 27, the Supreme Court of Thailand upheld the original ruling, sentencing three Thai brokers indicted for illegal distribution and trademark infringement to prison terms of 3 years, 7 months, and 10 days, and 2 years, 7 months, and 10 days, respectively. Separately, the court imposed fines on the companies involved in the illegal distribution of counterfeit products.
A Medytox representative stated, "This incident exploited the reputation of Medytox products, which have become established as premium brands locally," adding, "Only genuine products are distributed in Korea." He also advised, "Overseas, please ensure that the products are genuine by checking for the official hologram sticker and serial number, which are used to manage the distribution process."
