Laying the Foundation for Regional Development
Modernization of Samcheonpo Fish Market and Creation of Shinsu Port Multi-Functional Hub
Sacheon City in South Gyeongsang Province has gained momentum in advancing key projects in the marine and fisheries sector by securing national funding for the 2026 fiscal year.
Through the establishment of a close cooperative system among the city, Samcheonpo Fisheries Cooperative, and National Assemblyman Seo Cheonho, national funds have been secured for core projects addressing regional issues, such as the modernization of the Samcheonpo fish market and the creation of the CLEAN National Fishing Port (Shinsu Port).
In particular, 150 million won in design costs for next year’s Samcheonpo fish market modernization project and 750 million won in design costs out of the total 19.1 billion won project budget for the CLEAN National Fishing Port (Shinsu Port) project have been secured. This funding makes it possible to practically advance projects such as the construction of a family-friendly park and fishing gear storage facilities within Shinsu Port.
The Samcheonpo Fisheries Cooperative fresh fish market, established in 1965, has long faced issues such as aging facilities and poor working conditions, leading to ongoing concerns about the safety and productivity of fishermen.
Through this modernization project, the structural safety of the market will be enhanced, hygiene facilities will be improved, and the workspace will be expanded. As a result, fishermen’s working conditions will be significantly improved, and the quality and freshness of seafood will be maintained, thereby strengthening the competitiveness of local seafood products.
Additionally, the purpose of the CLEAN National Fishing Port (Shinsu Port) project is to transform the port from a fisheries-focused port into a multi-functional hub where fisheries, tourism, and welfare coexist, by improving hygiene, safety, and the landscape. The creation of a family-friendly park, installation of an auto camping site, construction of new fishing gear storage facilities, and expansion of safety and landscape lighting on the breakwater are all expected to greatly enhance the quality of life for local fishermen and residents, thereby contributing significantly to revitalizing the local economy.
Through the securing of this national funding, the city has established an important foundation for the sustainable development of local fishing villages and for driving future growth. Sacheon City plans to continue strengthening cooperation with local lawmakers, Gyeongnam Province, and fisheries organizations to actively promote various projects aimed at regional development and improving residents’ welfare. The city believes that this budget allocation will serve as an important stepping stone for the future of Sacheon’s fishing communities.
Mayor Park Dongsik stated, "With this national funding, we expect to resolve local fishing village issues and achieve future growth. We will do our utmost to advance these projects, striving to improve the quality of life for our citizens and to revitalize the local economy."
