Born to Chinese Parents but with Blonde Hair and Blue Eyes... 120 Million Views Online

Family Tree Reveals Ancestor's Genes Expressed After Three Generations
Russian Great-Grandfather Settled in China After Marrying Local Woman

A young girl born to a Chinese couple has become an online sensation due to her Western appearance, featuring blonde hair and blue eyes. Although both parents are Chinese, it was later revealed that the girl's great-grandfather was Russian, uncovering the secret behind her distinctive looks.

On December 8, 2025 (local time), the Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported the story of the Yang couple living in Jiangsu Province, China. The couple had a daughter in May 2022. However, upon noticing their daughter's Western features, such as blonde hair and blue eyes, they rushed to the hospital to ask whether their child might have been switched at birth.

A genetic test conducted at the hospital confirmed that the girl was indeed the biological daughter of the Yang couple. The couple then looked into their family history and discovered that the girl's great-grandfather was Russian. He had settled in China after marrying a woman from Henan Province and reportedly passed away in 1985.

Mr. Yang told the media, "In our family, only boys were born in the past. Neither I, my father, nor any of my male relatives showed any mixed-race features." He added, "It seems that the recessive genes related to appearance inherited from the great-grandfather are deactivated in males."

When she was born, Yang's daughter looked like a typical Chinese newborn, but her eyes turned blue at eight months old. Around her first birthday, her hair became blonde and curly, and her eyelashes grew longer. Mr. Yang explained, "All the older relatives say that my daughter resembles her great-grandfather."

Mr. Yang stated, "Appearance is not important. What matters is that my daughter grows up healthy and happy," adding, "I hope she becomes a person of value to society." Guo Jang has been attending kindergarten since September and is reportedly already fluent in Chinese.

The story of the Yang couple has garnered more than 120 million views on Chinese social networking services (SNS) and other platforms.
