Koo Yoon-chul: "90.1% of This Year's Main Budget Executed... Key Livelihood Projects to Be Implemented Immediately Next Year"

28th Fiscal Execution Inspection Meeting
Urges "Completion of Preliminary Procedures Within the Year"

On December 8, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Koo Yoon-chul urged all ministries to "complete the preliminary procedures for next year's budget within this year so that key livelihood projects can be implemented immediately from the first day of the new year."


At the 28th Fiscal Execution Inspection Meeting held at the Government Seoul Office on the same day, Deputy Prime Minister Koo stated, "We will thoroughly prepare for the execution of next year's budget in advance, and we will make every effort to execute this year's budget to the very end."


He further explained, "Finalizing this year's budget is extremely important to maintain the momentum of economic recovery under the new administration," adding, "We will focus on minimizing unused and unspent funds and on improving the execution rate."


As of the end of November, 214.8 trillion won of this year's main budget had been executed, resulting in an execution rate of 90.1%, which is 2.7 percentage points faster than the previous year. The government also decided to make every effort to fully execute the supplementary budgets by the end of the year. Of the first supplementary budget, 11.2 trillion won out of the 12 trillion won under management (93.9%) has already been executed, and for the second supplementary budget, 20.3 trillion won out of 20.7 trillion won (98.2%) has already been spent. Deputy Prime Minister Koo stated, "The central and local governments will work together to ensure that the benefits of economic recovery are evenly distributed to all citizens."

He instructed that business plans for next year's budget should be finalized within this month. Deputy Prime Minister Koo emphasized, "Since the budget bill passed the National Assembly within the constitutional deadline for the first time in five years, we will thoroughly prepare in advance for budget execution to actively support the realization of a 'super-innovative economy' and the stabilization of people's livelihoods."


He also stated, "To facilitate smooth project implementation by local governments, the details and amounts of subsidized projects should be promptly communicated, and for projects allocated before the start of the fiscal year, preparations such as contracts and project announcements should be completed within this year so that implementation can begin immediately in January next year."


Deputy Prime Minister Koo added, "Through thorough advance preparation, we will ensure that next year's budget serves as a reliable catalyst for recovery and growth," and continued, "We will not be complacent with our achievements so far and will strive to finish the year strong."
