US Talks Yield No Results... Zelensky to Discuss Ceasefire Proposal with Major European Leaders

Miami Talks End Without Visible Progress
Zelensky to Meet UK, French, and German Leaders to Secure Favorable Ceasefire Proposal

It appears that the three-day discussions between the U.S. and Ukrainian delegations regarding a ceasefire proposal have failed to yield any results. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is now expected to resume discussions on a ceasefire with major European countries.

According to reports from The Guardian and the Kyiv Post on December 7 (local time), no visible progress was made during the talks between the U.S. and Ukrainian delegations held in Miami, Florida. However, President Zelensky maintained a positive tone, stating on social media the previous day that he had a "very substantive and constructive" conversation with Steve Witkoff, the U.S. Presidential Envoy, and others.

The Kyiv Post reported that the Ukrainian delegation, led by Rustem Umerov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, and Andriy Hnatov, Chief of the General Staff, focused on Ukraine's security structure and highlighted Russia's history of violating its commitments during the discussions with the U.S. side.

Among European countries, there are concerns that a ceasefire agreement lacking enforcement mechanisms would leave Ukraine vulnerable to the risk of another Russian invasion. President Zelensky is scheduled to visit London on December 8 to meet with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to discuss the ceasefire.

The aim is to secure the most favorable ceasefire proposal by cooperating with major European countries that support Ukraine's postwar security. President Macron stated that during this meeting, the leaders will review the status of ceasefire negotiations and discuss plans to guarantee Ukraine's security after the war.
