On December 7, the Presidential Office assessed the achievements of the first six months of President Lee Jaemyung's administration, stating, "We have quickly restored daily life, which was disrupted by the rebellion, and have returned to the starting line for renewed growth and progress."
Kang Hoon-sik, Chief Secretary to the President, made this statement during a 'performance report press briefing' held at the Yongsan Presidential Office together with Wi Sung-rak, Director of National Security, and Kim Yong-beom, Director of Policy.
Kang stated, "The journey of the past six months has been a process of normalization and a comprehensive overhaul of state affairs," adding, "We have infused new energy into all aspects of national governance to bring about tangible changes that the public can truly feel."
He cited "the recovery of the people's economy" as a representative achievement. Kang explained, "To revive our economy, which had been weakened by a prolonged domestic downturn, we established the Emergency Economic Task Force as the President's first directive and executed a supplementary budget for economic recovery," adding, "Our export markets are also setting new records day by day."
Kang also emphasized, "We have laid a new foundation to support an economic leap forward centered on future high-tech industries," noting, "Next year's research and development budget has been expanded to a record level, and by securing 260,000 graphic processing units (GPUs)-a core resource for AI conversations-we have further paved the way for Korea to become one of the world's top three AI powerhouses."
Regarding diplomacy and security, Kang stated, "Starting with the Group of Seven (G7) summit, which was held immediately after the administration took office, we have led multilateral diplomacy, fully normalized summit diplomacy, and announced the return of democratic Korea to the world."
In particular, Kang highlighted, "Above all, the most significant diplomatic issue-the tariff negotiations with the United States-was resolved wisely based on mutual respect and understanding," adding, "A cooperative partnership between Korea and the United States, fundamentally different from before, has been established."
He further explained, "Long-standing national aspirations, such as the construction of nuclear-powered submarines and the expansion of rights for uranium enrichment and spent nuclear fuel reprocessing, have also come to fruition."
Kang concluded, "There is still a long way to go. The international situation surrounding us remains unstable, and there are many unresolved issues within our society," pledging, "As President Lee Jaemyung always emphasizes, we will do our utmost over the remaining four years and six months so that the people will have even greater love and trust in us at the end of the term than at its beginning."
