On December 5 (local time), the U.S. Department of State announced that the approval includes 624 GBU-39 bombs, along with related equipment and support items. The total value of the sale is approximately 111.8 million dollars (about 165 billion won).

The GBU-39 is a glide-guided munition developed to allow aircraft to drop a greater number of bombs with precision. Since its deployment in 2006, it has been operated by the United States as well as major countries in Europe and the Middle East.

The imported bombs from the United States are expected to be mounted on the South Korean Air Force's main fighter jets, such as the F-15K and F-35A.
