Official Statement from President Lee Kijeong
"All Measures Will Be Taken to Correct Reporting and Address Distortions"
University Firmly Denies Restructuring Speculation Following June Sale of Hanyang Securities Shares
Hanyang University has strongly refuted reports claiming that its foundation, Hanyang Foundation, has been put up for sale, stating that these claims are "completely untrue."
On December 5, Hanyang University issued an official statement in the name of President Lee Kijeong, indicating that "all necessary measures will be taken to correct distortions and misunderstandings," and suggesting that the university will seek corrections and pursue legal action regarding the report.
President Lee stated, "The claim that the Hanyang University foundation is up for sale is completely untrue and is a clear case of misinformation," adding, "Assertions that Hanyang University is being sold or that its operator will change are also baseless and false."
He further explained, "According to an official confirmation from the foundation, the allocation plan for the next fiscal year's transfer funds has also been stably finalized," and added, "We have clearly confirmed that there will be no disruptions whatsoever in the university's financial operations, educational and research investments, faculty and staff personnel and compensation, or the overall student academic management and support systems."
Previously, on December 3, a media outlet cited the investment banking (IB) industry and reported that "Hanyang Foundation is quietly searching for a new operator, and the sale value could reach approximately 300 billion won." In response, the university expressed strong regret, stating, "The article was published without even verifying the basic facts and was based on mere speculation."
Meanwhile, Hanyang Foundation sold its shares in its subsidiary, Hanyang Securities, for approximately 220 billion won in June to secure liquidity. While some speculated that this could signal a series of restructuring or asset sales by the foundation, the university has firmly denied these claims, reiterating that "there are absolutely no issues with management stability."
