Rapid Transfer of Critical Patients and Minimizing Gaps in Care
Strengthening Golden Hour Response through Doctor Helicopter Cooperation
Andong Hospital under the Andong Medical Foundation (Chairman Kang Sin-hong) and Danyang County in North Chungcheong Province signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on December 4 to establish a regional emergency medical care system. As a cross-administrative boundary cooperation model, this partnership is expected to significantly strengthen the emergency medical safety network connecting northern North Gyeongsang Province and northern North Chungcheong Province.

The signing ceremony was attended by Danyang County Governor Kim Moon-geun, Andong Hospital Director Kim Geon-young, Danyang County Public Health Center Director Choi Byung-yong, and other officials, who pledged close cooperation in responding to critical and emergency patients. The two institutions agreed to pursue practical cooperation in several areas: ▲ seamless linkage of specialized medical care without regional restrictions ▲ establishment of a rapid transfer system for critical patients ▲ sharing of emergency medical information.
Danyang County, with over 10 million annual visitors, is a major tourist destination with a high likelihood of emergency situations. Through this agreement, Andong Hospital will actively support the acceptance and specialized treatment of critical patients from Danyang, helping to bridge regional gaps in medical care.
Danyang County Governor Kim Moon-geun stated, "Please work closely together to ensure that regional boundaries do not disrupt patient care during emergency transfers," and emphasized, "Rapid transport using the doctor helicopter is key to saving the lives of both residents and tourists in critical situations."
Andong Hospital Director Kim Geon-young said, "It is the duty of medical institutions to provide equal care beyond patients' places of residence or administrative boundaries. We will do our utmost to protect the lives of Danyang County residents."
Chairman Kang Sin-hong remarked, "Andong Hospital is already serving as a regional emergency medical hub beyond northern North Gyeongsang Province. With this agreement, we will further strengthen an emergency medical safety network that transcends regional boundaries."
Meanwhile, Andong Hospital and North Gyeongsang Province have been continuously working to establish and maintain doctor helicopter transfer points, and plan to expand these transfer points to neighboring areas such as Danyang to further enhance regional emergency response capabilities.
What matters more than administrative boundaries is 'time.' Because emergency medical care is a matter of life and death, this agreement presents a practical solution to break down regional barriers and protect the golden hour. The collaboration between Danyang and Andong is likely to set a new standard for regional emergency medical care.
