Concerns Grow Over Coupang Incident... National Office of Investigation Says "No Suspected Cases of Secondary Damage"

The National Office of Investigation stated, "As public concern over potential secondary damage from the Coupang incident is spreading, we are conducting daily inspections of incidents occurring nationwide," and released interim inspection results.

The Office explained, "First, regarding smishing and voice phishing, we compared the number of cases reported to the Integrated Response Team for Telecommunications Financial Fraud and the Cybercrime Reporting System before and after the Coupang incident. No significant increase or decrease was observed. Additionally, we reviewed approximately 22,000 cases received between June 24, 2025, and December 4, 2025. No suspected cases of secondary damage involving the misuse of information leaked from Coupang, such as delivery addresses or order details, were found, aside from criminal methods that existed prior to the Coupang incident."

The Office further added, "We conducted a comprehensive investigation into a total of approximately 116,000 cases of crimes such as home invasion, burglary, robbery, and stalking that occurred during the same period. Based on the methods of entry and how information was obtained, no cases related to the Coupang incident were identified."

Park Sungjoo, Commissioner General of the National Office of Investigation, stated, "We will closely monitor the possibility of Coupang personal information being distributed so that leaked information does not permeate the criminal ecosystem," and added, "We will continue to monitor for any secondary damage."
